What do we do

In collaboration with Baldock, Hitchin, Letchworth and Royston School Partnerships:

  • We offer support to schools in developing a strategic plan for Emotional and Mental Health
  • A highly successful, well attended conference was organised September 2017
  • We have an affiliation with Anglia Ruskin University and supervise and place MA drama therapist students in Primary and Early Years settings. In 2017-2018 8 students work across 9 settings
  • NESSie is part of the Children and Young People’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Learning Collaborative programme. In 2017-2018 8 qualified arts therapists and counsellors are covering our secondary schools in North Herts
  • We organise/offer training for schools and settings.
  • We offer training and information packs on Self Harm
  • We offer on-going support and supervision to staff
  • We link with key outside agencies
  • We communicate schools’ needs to leading commissioners
  • We have a list of quality assured counsellors and art and drama therapist for schools at competitive rates.
  • We organise and support parent training events.
  • We collate and evaluate data in partnership with CYP-IAPT and outside key agencies.

NHDSPL has committed £50,000 per annum over four years towards the running of NESSie. It is envisaged that other funding streams will be explored which will also support the service.

What we offer

Access to and support with:

  • NESSie My Time – A child-led, play based developmentally reparative and nurturing intervention for schools.
  • NESSie My World and Me – An early intervention programme for children with ASD and emotional/behavioural problems.

Training:

  • Dealing with destructive behaviour.
  • Anxiety and developing resilience.
  • Foundation in Emotional and Mental Health.
  • LGBT Foundation.
  • Assessing and Evaluating

How do we do it?

  • NESSie Staff Support Forums offered locally each half term providing training and supervision. These provide an invaluable opportunity for staff working in schools and settings to discuss important issues and gain support from one another and their area coordinator.
  • NESSie Training in collaboration with NHDSPL (Area 1) via SENCO and Family Support Worker Forums.
  • An offer to all schools and settings of an annual consultancy/planning meeting.

A Steering Group comprising ISL, ESTMA, Head Teachers, Parent and Partnership Development Officers is in place as a mechanism to drive the service forward
